About doki doki lab.
doki doki lab. is a small children’s clothing and cloth goods brand from Arcachon Bay on the southwest coast of France launched by a Franco-Japanese sewing enthusiast.
She sews Japanese-style garments partly by hand, using organic or recycled natural fabrics (cotton/linen/hemp) dyed with vegetable dyes or old kimonos and haoris.
The brand identity
doki doki lab.’s owner wanted a visual identity that evoked the simple, unique beauty of craftsmanship, gentleness, the ocean, respect for nature, Japan, and the region where she lives: Arcachon Bay on the Atlantic coast.
Brand colors
I chose a color palette inspired by the ocean, Japan, nature, and plants.
I also wanted it to convey gentleness.
doki doki lab.’s logo
The logo depicts a seashell, stitches, and a hanko with Japanese wave and pine tree motifs.
I kept in mind that the brand owner wanted her logo to look hand-crafted while designing it.
Other brand elements
Fonts and graphic elements: hand-drawn seashells and indigo plants.
I’m Judith Cotelle, a freelance graphic designer based in Japan.
