Autour du Japon
Online Concept Store
Autour du Japon means “Around Japan”. It’s an online store and a concept that brings together Japanese creators and other creators working in the Japanese spirit.
They sell brand clothing, bags, accessories, designer clothes such as Tatsumi Miyagi, Koji Mita, and Isabelle Miglietti, a selection of silk kimonos, yukatas for men, house linen by Atsuko Matano, Japanese silk scarves, furoshiki, designers jewellery, books, painting, and photographs…
A logo inspired by Japan
They asked me to design a logo using a Japanese kamon (family crest) called umezuru (梅鶴) that depicts a crane and a plum blossom. To give the logo a more authentic Japanese feel, I decided to position the shop name vertically.
Letterpress business cards and traditional Japanese colours
They wanted high-quality business cards that would convey the authenticity of the items they sell as well as the fact they’re well crafted. That’s why I ordered letterpress cards from a letterpress shop in Kyoto and chose a thick paper stock with a nice texture (特Aクッション0.8, 448.5g).
We picked the spot colour from the DIC COLOR GUIDE called “Traditional colours of Nippon”.
Tote bags
The tote bags were also screen printed in Japan. We chose indigo fabric as indigo dyeing has a long history in Japan. For the tote bags, I made a slightly different version of the logo to make better use of the space.
